Having health insurance protection is important for everyone. As an agent with BHI, I offer residents of San Diego, and the surrounding communities, a choice when it comes to their health care options.
Health Insurance in San Diego
With nearly 40 million people residing within its borders, California remains the United States’ most populous state. This population gives California power at the polls and a loud voice throughout the nation, but it is also a population who needs to be taken care of in terms of education, healthcare, and employment.
For California residents and people across the United States, health insurance remains a confusing and often overlooked part of life. Without health insurance, everything from preventive health checkups to serious medical problems can be overlooked because of the financial stress of medical bills.
Having health insurance isn’t impossible, though. There are ways to find affordable health insurance in order to provide for yourself, your family, and your employees. If you live in San Diego, there are many ways to find the right health insurance that fits your medical needs and your budget.
Family, Individual, or Group Plans
As of 2017, about 216,000 residents of San Diego remained uninsured. With the many changes to the American healthcare system in recent months, it can be confusing to know what kind of health insurance is affordable and available to you in San Diego.
As the most populous city in San Diego county, the city of San Diego has a diverse population of people of different ages, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds. There are over 440,000 individuals living in San Diego who are between the ages of 25 and 44; this is their prime time to pursue their careers, start families, and enjoy life as happy, healthy adults.
In San Diego, men and women are most likely to have health insurance when they are kids (6-17) and again from 25-34. There are many providers of health insurance for residents of San Diego. These carriers offer individual health insurance options as well as insurance plans for families and small businesses. Additionally, there are health insurance options for people with pre-existing conditions. Based on your income, you may qualify for a health insurance program that offers financial assitance.
Covered California Coverage
Covered California is a state-run health insurance marketplace or health insurance exchange that provides affordable health insurance options for individuals, families, and small businesses. Currently, over 1.4 million people are enrolled in Covered California. Through Covered California, you can see what health insurance plans you qualify for, in addition to seeing if you can receive any discounts or assistance with your health insurance costs. Currently, all 11 health care providers that offered health insurance plans in the Covered California marketplace will be participating in the marketplace in 2019. Covered California is committed to offering a variety of health insurance options that are affordable, economical, and reasonable for residents of San Diego
San Diego residents should be ready to update their health insurance coverage at the Covered California health exchange during the open enrollment period. This period allows people to renew their existing health insurance plan, switch plans if they want to, or sign up for a new health insurance plan.
With Covered California, renewing your plan or choosing a new one may be difficult. However, the experts at BuyHealthInsurance can facilitate the process and find you plan that best suits you needs. Users can start a new application or make adjustments if some of their personal information has changed. If you don’t want to change your health insurance plan, Covered California makes it easy to verify your information without filling out more paperwork. If you don’t make any changes to your health insurance plan, it will automatically renew if your chosen plan is still offered under the Covered California marketplace.
Alternative Health Insurance
BuyHealthInsurance provides more than just traditional health insurance; we understand that not all residents of San Diego are going to want a regular health insurance plan. There are alternatives to traditional health insurance options, like HealthSharing plans.
A health sharing plan from a company like Aliera, works a bit differently than a traditional health insurance policy does. With a health sharing plan, members contribute money towards medical bills of the entire group. As money gets put into the group, it can be taken out as medical needs arise. The risk is spread out among the members of the group, and medical bills can be less of a financial shock to deal with when medical emergencies do arise.
There are a few changes that have been made to health insurance in San Diego. One change is that Short Term Medical insurance plans are no longer offered. Secondly, the individual mandate or tax penalty that was in place for uninsured individuals will affect taxes for 2018, but not after that.
